I can't believe I'm featuring a band and using the descriptor "80s" in it.
I thought I loathed all things reminiscent of the decade that I often personally lobby we all could have done without.
Yet somehow the comeback of stretch pants, Ray-Bans and the synthesizer and making me a little bit giddy.
Let's chalk this one up to nostalgia.
The self-titled album, La Roux, was released in 2009 and made Hessel's Best of Music for 2009 (Thanks H!).
La Roux is an English electropop and synthpop duo featuring Eleanor Jackson and Ben Langmaid.
I would put their sound somewhere between The Gossip and Hockey (two of my 2009 toppers).
Their beats and synth sound combined with her falsetto voice make a great eponymous debut album. Her vocals breathe excitement, celebration and angst all at once.In for the Kill and Bulletproof have been the featured tracks off the album, no doubt with their catchy sound, making them great for hooping (if you're into that) or just for dancing around your living room. Tigerlily has the same eminently creepy voice found on Micahel Jackson's Thriller (Yay. Okay, who am I kidding? I do love stuff from the 80s). The slower more melodic Armour Love is not to be missed, but then there really isn't a bad track on the album, which is just one more reason why it is this month's feature artist/album.
The British girls (see: Florence + the Machine) are really taking the features this year so far.
