Artist of the Month | Travie McCoy

This month's feature discovery comes from my recent trip to the UK.
During my morning work out in the hotel gym the TV was tuned to England's music video channel, with a show titled America's Top Artist's of the Week.
The featured track was Travie McCoy with Bruno Mars collaborating on "Billionaire" (which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the UK Singles Chart).

Travie McCoy's solo album, Lazarus, was released in June of this year. Travis Lazarus "Travie" McCoy is the lead vocalist of the alternative hip-hop band Gym Class Heroes. Lazarus is his first solo album. The artwork cover (which I love) was designed by Brent Rollins. The album's title is taken from Travie's middle name, which is of Hebrew origin meaning "God is my help."

The album is definitely the pop side of hip hop, which is why I find it so fun. Most hip hop is a bit too heavy for my tastes, but the upbeat, happy sounds found on most of these tracks makes it a fun album you can dance to in your living room (and you know I love that!).
Also, very hoopable. Very important.

The first song, "Dr, Feel Good," is a collaboration with Cee-Lo Green (another one of the few artists who crosses the hip hop/pop genre lines well.
Other top tracks are "We'll be Alright" and "After Midnight."

Gossip Tip: McCoy and Katy Perry dated on and off for several years, and McCoy is allegedly the subject of Perry's song "Circle The Drain", from her 2010 Teenage Dream album.
