Birthday Weekend in Bellingham with C & K was very fun. On the calendar I actually labeled it “Birthday Weekend of Nothingness” which was pretty close to true. More than not actually doing anything it was that I didn’t want to have to schedule, plan or be anywhere at a certain time (which is ironically why I scheduled into my calendar as such).

We wandered the streets of Fairhaven, visited Village Books and Eclipse Books, had tea and walked the boardwalk from Boulevard Park, drove by my old (favorite) apartment and had snacks & drinks at the Chuckanut Brewery (a fairly new place converted from a gas station and mechanic shop to a pub and brewery), which were donating all tips made that day to Doctors Without Boarders for the Haiti Relief efforts.

Both K and I couldn’t believe the changes that have happened around the area over the last 10 years. Can anyone say: gentrification?
No doubt the hippies were sad to see the yuppie young retirees come in and mod out all the old buildings while raising the rent/home price by a good 20+%.
Good thing K and I were back in town to let them now the hippies are not dead! We just call ourselves Earth Lovers and sometimes wear North Face…while sipping Chai tea smelling of patchouli, of course!
